We can be pleased with the smooth running of the competition, and our 23 participants can be proud of their performances. Yesterday, the AIDA Belgian Freediving Cup took place in Zottegem with three disciplines.
We had two consecutive records in DNF, first by Anne-Sophie Rodrigues Gonzalez with 123 m, then by Jessyca Dubernard with 125 m, setting a new Belgian record. Naima Joris took third place with 88 m. The men also did their best, with Sam McCullen taking third place in the same discipline with 139 m, Danail Edrev in second place with 143 m, and Valentin Nys winning the gold medal with 159 m.
In DYNB, Tiffany Wicheler qualified for third place with 104 m in her first competition, Severine Roman did better with 114 m and took second place. In first place, Caroline Rodriguez Gonzalez qualified with 130 m. Among the men, Raphaël Bourgois achieved a great performance of 134 m, Olivier Renier took second place with 150 m, and Sylvain Harrault finally took first place with 154 m.
In STA, with which we launched the competition, the third place among women went to Marie-Lorraine Weiss with 4′ 27″, Nostalgie Pelsener came second with 4′ 59″, and Véronique Renard took first place with 5′ 14″. For the men, Danail Edrev did 5′ 36″ in third place, Brieuc Simon took second place with 5′ 41″, and Sylvain Harrault came in first with 7′ 03″.
We must also mention Lena Link, who was the first Luxembourgish woman to set the first national record in all three disciplines, with 04′ 13” in STA, 54 m in DNF, and 79 m in DYNB, bravo!
Congratulations to them, but also to all the others for achieving great performances. Of course, we do not forget to thank the judges and our safety team, the sponsors of this competition FreeXperience, Freediving Planet, and the Sphere de Jana, and a special thanks to Mégane and Jana for doing a great job on the presentation with beautiful photos.
